Caitlin Marie Hook, aged 38, peacefully passed away on April 10, surrounded by her loving family at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston. Born on December 17, 1987, in Boston, Caitlin was the cherished daughter of Edward Hook, Jr. and Kathleen Thorsen.
Raised in Melrose, Caitlin was a proud graduate of Melrose High School’s Class of 2006, where she excelled in her academics and enjoyed playing on the soccer team. Her deep love for reading was ever present throughout her life and brought her great joy. Summers were cherished times for Caitlin, spending time at her family’s camp in Maine as well as fond times alongside her cousins in The Hamptons.
Caitlin was known for her boundless compassion and caring nature. Even in times when she herself needed support, she always put others first. Her gentle spirit extended to her advocacy for animals, working for a time at Northeast Animal Shelter, reflecting her tender heart and love for any wayward animal. Caitlin’s zest for life was also evident through her love of concerts, roller coasters, and snowboarding.
She leaves behind her loving family: her mother, Kathleen Thorsen of Bonita Springs, FL; her father, Edward A. Hook, Jr., and his wife Julie of Lynnfield; her brother, Edward Hook III, and his wife Christen of Middleton; here sister, Lauren McVay and her husband Derek of Beverly; her maternal grandfather, Thomas Thorsen of New York; her nephew Marshall McVay and niece Hazel Hook. Caitlin was also a beloved niece to Nancy Doto and her husband Michael, James Hook and his wife Shelly, Alfred Hook and his partner Karen Waisnor, Daniel Mulkerrin, Julie Foley and her husband Tim—all of Lynnfield—along with John Mulkerrin and his husband Dean Bacon of Salem, and Steven Thorsen and his wife Suzanne, and Paul Thorsen and his wife Bonnie of East Hampton, NY. She is also survived by her longtime partner, Patrick Barror; as well as many loving cousins and extended family. Caitlin was predeceased by her grandparents, Edward Hook, Joan and Frank Mulkerrin and Ann Thorsen, her aunt, Suzanne Hook and her cousin, Michael Doto.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Maria Goretti Church, 112 Chestnut St., Lynnfield on Thursday April 16 at 12:00 p.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday April 15 from 4-7 p.m.
A private burial for family will be held.
In lieu of flowers, and to honor Caitlin’s great love of animals, the family wishes for charitable donations be made to MSPCA-Angell, Attn: Donations, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130.
