Cynthia J. DeVoe

Cynthia “Cindy” DeVoe, 71, of Wakefield, Massachusetts, passed away at home unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, after a period of declining health. Born on January 29, 1954, she was the beloved daughter of the late George & Patricia (Murphy) Oldford of Danvers, Massachusetts.

Cynthia is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, Paul DeVoe, with whom she shared a lifelong love that began when they met at the age of 16. They were married on September 14, 1975, and built a life together in Wakefield. She was the cherished mother of Danielle DeVoe (and her fiancé, Lawrence Porter), of Hillsboro, NH, and Nicole Goetz (and her husband, Donald Goetz), of Burlington, MA. Cynthia’s greatest joy was being "Mamae" to her seven adored grandchildren—Jade, Ryan, Edward, Holly, Kaylee, Charlotte, and Allison—who were the light of her life.

In addition to her husband and children, Cynthia is survived by her cherished sister Karen Deane (and her husband Malcolm) of Largo, Florida and is pre-deceased by her sister Gail Oldford-Dinsdale.

Cindy will also be lovingly remembered by her extended family, including her in-laws from the DeVoe family, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her warmth, kindness, and generosity.

A woman with a big heart and a warm smile, Cynthia found immense joy in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Summers were often spent under the sun—either at the pool or at the beach, where she loved the ocean and the company of close friends. She also loved crime dramas and could often be found curled up watching the latest episodes of her favorite series.

Cynthia's kindness, humor, and fierce love for her family will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

A celebration of life to honor Cynthia’s memory will be held on Saturday, August 30th, 2025 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Reading from 2-4pm. All our welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor her memory by spending time with your loved ones, going to the beach, or enjoying a home-cooked meal, —just as she would have.
