David E. Miller

David E. Miller Sr., age 90, of Lynnfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 30, at Sunrise of Lynnfield.

David was born on June 13, 1936, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to Edward and Eleanor (Martens) Miller. During his childhood, his family lived in several places, including Mexico and Flushing, New York, before eventually settling in Arlington, Massachusetts. He graduated from Arlington High School and went on to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University, followed by an MBA from Harvard Business School. His passion for learning continued throughout his life, and he later earned his law degree from Suffolk University.

David married Diana V. Amato on August 26, 1961, and together they shared 65 beautiful years of marriage and raised three children. Throughout their life together, David and Diana traveled the world, cherished time spent with lifelong friends and created lasting traditions with their family. Some of his happiest times were spent at Newfound Lake, where he enjoyed summers surrounded by his children and grandchildren, and sailing on the lake.

David had a remarkable and varied career and truly wore many hats throughout his life. Early in his career, he worked for Simplex and TASC. His work with WSI took him around the world, where he helped establish systems for delivering weather data via satellite. Later, he founded LEMCO Miller, where he had the opportunity to work alongside his children. He also spent many years as an adjunct professor at Suffolk University, where he organized an exchange program with IESE Business School in Barcelona. As an attorney, David generously offered his knowledge and services pro bono to friends, family, and members of his local community.

David was also deeply committed to the Town of Lynnfield and dedicated many years to public service. He first served on the Finance Committee before going on to complete three terms as a Lynnfield Selectman. During his nine years in office, he was particularly proud of helping to establish L.I.F.E. and supporting efforts to clean and preserve Pillings Pond. He later served as Town Moderator, continuing his longstanding commitment to the community he called home. Outside of his professional and civic life, David had no shortage of interests. He loved sailing, reading, chess, traveling, poker, cars, and technology, and remained endlessly curious throughout his life. Most importantly, he cherished time spent with his family and took great pride in watching his grandchildren grow up, graduate from high school and college, and find their own paths in the world.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Diana; his children, Diana Jeanne and her husband, Albert Bass, Cynthia and her husband, Brett Lombardi, and David Jr. and his wife, Ann Miller. A proud grandfather of Ashley and Nathan Bass, Michelle and Jennifer Miller, and Sarah and Andrew Lombardi. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Eleanor Miller, and his brothers, Eddie and Glenn Miller.

Family and friends are invited to McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday from 4-7pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Maria Goretti Church,112 Chestnut St., Lynnfield on Friday at 9am. Interment, Forest Hill Cemetery, Lynnfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Heart Association in David’s memory. His greatest legacy will always be the family he loved so deeply and the memories they created together.
