Saugus

Deborah Jean Ryan

Deborah Jean (Griffin) Ryan, 70, of Saugus passed away peacefully with her husband by her side Sunday night February 22, 2026, while listening to her favorite song 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'. Debbie was born July 29, 1955 to JoAnn and Charles Griffin. She attended Medford High School and later got her nursing degree from Boston University. Debbie worked at New England Memorial Hospital in Stoneham for many years in a variety of nursing roles. She then worked at multiple schools in Wakefield, ultimately retiring as the school nurse of Wakefield High School, a role she absolutely loved.

Aside from her nursing career, Debbie enjoyed life with her family and many close friends. She was particularly fond of the beach, whether it was enjoying the views on Cape Cod or shelling in Florida as the dolphins swam by. Debbie loved music, cooking, hosting friends, her two Cocker Spaniels Sandie and Bella, having girls’ days with her two daughters, and spending time in the sun. She was known for her warm, welcoming home and made anyone who walked in the door instantly feel like family.

Debbie is survived by her husband Paul of Saugus, her daughter Stephanie DiPietro and husband LJ of Stoneham, and daughter Emily of Brooklyn, NY. She was predeceased by her parents JoAnn and Charles Griffin and father-in-law James Ryan. She is the daughter-in-law of Lucille Ryan of Amesbury. She is also survived by her siblings James Butler and wife Barbara of Andover, and June Quinlan of Seabrook NH. Debbie’s many nieces, nephews, and Godchildren were among her greatest joys as well. She was also lucky to have had dear friends that became family to her over the years.

Even after Alzheimer's disease took Debbie’s memories from her, she maintained her endearing expressions and love for music no matter what. She is dearly missed for her tight hugs, bright smile, infectious laughter, and spirit as warm as sunshine.

Her Funeral Blessing will be held in the McDonald-Finnegan-Anderson Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Saturday, February 28 at 11am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held prior to the service from 9am-11am. Burial will be private.

A celebration of Debbie's life will take place in the warm summer sunshine she loved so much, around her birthday in July. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to either the Alzheimer's Association or the Cocker Spaniel Rescue League of New England.
