Diane E. Jones, 83, a lifelong resident of Wakefield died Friday May 1, at the Brudnick Center of Peabody.

Born in Revere, April 18, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Shirley (Prower) Eager.

Diane was a graduate of Wakefield High School class of 1961. She trained at the Boston Dispensary and became a certified medical lab technologist. She dedicated her professional career to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital where she worked for over 50 years in the lab, retiring as the coordinator of point of care testing.

As a former member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, Diane supported her daughter Amy’s time in Rainbow as a Worthy Advisor, Grand Officer, and organist at many meetings and installations throughout Massachusetts. She served as an Advisory Board member of Wakefield Assembly #43 for almost 40 years and for eight of those years was honored to serve as the Mother Advisor. She was instrumental in creating the Wakefield Rainbow Scholarship Fund during the 50th Anniversary of the assembly and those scholarship funds continue on today through The Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield.

Diane was the beloved wife of Charles K. Jones with whom she celebrated 60 years of marriage on February 12th of this year. She was the cherished mother of AmyBeth of Lynnfield. She was the sister of the late Sandra Johnson and her late husband Norman and aunt of their children Timothy and Melissa, sister of Linda Doherty and aunt of her children Andrew and Jennifer, sister Deborah Heimbecker and her husband Richard and aunt of their children Richard and Amanda, brother Ralph and his wife Cathy and aunt of their children Sean, Jamie, and Christopher, and sister Karen and her husband Bill Silver and aunt of their children Bill, Jodi and Michael. She was the sister-in-law of the late Diana (Jones) Wasson and her husband Ronnie and aunt of their children Scot, Julie, and Debra. She is also survived by many great nieces and great nephews.

Her Funeral Service will be held at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 5 Bryant St., Wakefield on Wednesday May 6 at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday May 5 from 4-8 p.m. Interment, Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
