Donald Hunt

Donald Colin Hunt , age 88, of Lynnfield, died on Friday, November 19th after a long, full life with friends and family.

He was born in Lynn on September 22, 1933 and was the son of the late William and Helen (Steele) Hunt .

Don enriched the lives of so many people with his positive attitude and his love of family and friends. His high school sweetheart, Dorothy LeBlanc, and he were married in May of 1953. They were both very proud of the family they raised together for more than sixty-eight years.

He was the loving father of Donald Hunt and his wife Kristen of Florida, Denise Fiorentino and her husband Joseph of Scituate, Deanna Peterson and her late husband Kurt of Andover, Doug Hunt and his wife Rose of Lynnfield. He is also survived by many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews along with his brothers-in-law Robert Caulfield and George Wallace.

His children, extended family and friends remember many happy holiday celebrations, summers at "the camp" in NH, winters skiing in the White Mountains, golf outings, his love of cars, his obsession with any and all sporting events (with an occasional "few dollars" wager on his favorite teams) and his amazing talent for stunning us with sports statistics on any player, any team, any league.

He was inducted to the Lynn English High School Hall of Fame for his spectacular career in both football and basketball. He learned to ski in his early forties and took up golf at the same time becoming an avid, skilled player. His membership at the Bear Hill Country Club in Stoneham was a joy for him where he loved to spend time with the other members. Don had a great sense of humor and liked nothing more than making someone laugh. He entertained friends and strangers with his stories and jokes. There was something in his skill of delivery and the smile on his face that made it so special to be his audience.

Don served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was stationed in Germany just after being married. Dot traveled on an ocean liner to be with him there. Germany held a special place for the two of them where they returned to dozens of times. Don and Dot never tired of the warm welcome they received when they would enter their favorite pubs and shops in the heart of Garmisch.

In his long career at Digital Equipment Corporation as Plant Manager he opened the door for many young people and maintained long distance friendships with his former colleagues.

Donald was the brother of Willena Mathews, the late Dorothy Tracy and the late William Hunt .
