Edmund J. Browne, Jr.

Edmund J. “Ed” Browne, Jr. age 84 of Saugus, formerly of Wakefield passed away at the Beverly Hospital on July 5, 2026. He was born in Chelsea, MA on December 31, 1941 and was the son of the late Edmund J. and Elizabeth (Smith) Browne.

He was raised in Chelsea and attended Saint Rose School, later graduated from Chelsea High School. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in West Germany during the Vietnam era. Ed’s path was vibrant, working in the music and hospitality industry and working for many years at Ken’s Car Care in Saugus. Most recently, he served as a manager of Sal’s Clothing Restoration in Everett, where Sal was not just his employer, but to Ed, was family.

Ed’s hobbies were just as rich as his work life. In his younger years, Ed loved flying his Piper Cherokee Six and was elated when his nephew began flying many years later and he had the opportunity to fly with him. He was an excellent cook and the ultimate storyteller. He enjoyed sharing stories about growing up in Chelsea and his travels in Japan. Ed was a member of the Saugus Elks.

Ed was a devoted son and brother. He cared deeply for his late father, Ed and sister, Betty. While he did not have children, he was a beloved and ever-present uncle for his nieces, nephews, and extended family. Ed was happiest surrounded by friends and family, enjoying an Italian meal, and sipping a glass of Dewars.

Ed was the brother of the late Elizabeth Reardon and her surviving husband John Reardon of Wakefield. He was the uncle of John Reardon III and his wife Heather of Hudson, Erin Miyazaki and her husband Akito of Middleton, and Kathryn Polidoro and her husband Victor of Lyons, Colorado. Ed was godfather to Megan (Browne) Gauthier, daughter of his cousin Francis Browne and his wife Mary, of Peabody. He is also survived by his great nieces; Samantha and Audrey Reardon, Kenna, Hadley and Teagan Miyazaki, Wren Polidoro and many close cousins.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Friday, July 10 at 11:30am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday, July 9 from 4-7pm. Interment, Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
