Edward G. Flaherty, 85, a longtime resident of Wakefield died Friday January 16, at the Woburn Nursing Center.
Born in Winchester, July 25, 1940 he was the son of the late William and Anna (Tolan) Flaherty.
Ed was a graduate of Charlestown High School class of 1958. He continued his education at Suffolk University. Ed worked as Sales Representative for Royal Typewriter and worked in the business offices of Mass General Hospital. He and his wife Ann volunteered many hours for the Kennedy campaigns in Washington DC as well as locally. He loved to travel, read, walk and watch Jeopardy. Ed was always happiest when he was with his family. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren. He found so much joy in attending athletic events, musical performances and anything they were involved in.
Ed was the beloved husband of the late Ann M. (Gillis) Flaherty. He was the loving father of Kerrie M. Roberto and her husband John, and Kellie A. Roche and her husband Kevin of Wakefield. He was the brother of John J. Flaherty of Charlestown, Paul K. Flaherty of Acton, Anne E. Martin of Peabody, and the late William B. Flaherty. Ed is also survived by his six grandchildren, Kevin, Brendan, John and Patrick Roche and Adam and Matthew Roberto all of Wakefield. Later in life, Ed Was blessed to be able to share many loving years with his special friend Janet Giles.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Thursday, January 22 at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday, January 21 from 4-7 p.m. Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
