It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Edwin Hansen Klove Jr. on September 11, 2025 at the age of 91 in Lynnfield, Massachusetts, formally of Kewadin and Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Born on January 16, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of Edwin Klove Sr and Margaret Klove.
Ed graduated from General Motors Institute with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and went on to have a long and fulfilling career at General Motors where he was integral to the development of many patented automative safety features which continue to make all of us safer in cars today, most notably air bag development and passive restraint systems.
Ed cherished each of his 69 years with his much-loved wife, Marcie, who he married in November 1956 and together they raised their five children. Being a consummate outdoorsman, Ed enjoyed introducing his children to his favorite activities: skiing and sailing. In winter, he could be found in the bitter cold lacing up ski boots of his kids. In summer, he’d be shouting ‘hard alee, watch the boom’! Ed also enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. His unwavering spirit and dedication to his family will forever be remembered.
He is survived by his loving spouse, Marcella, their children, Mark Klove (Stephanie), Lars Klove (Katty Van Itallie), Ingrid Klove (Mike Rhodin), Julie Mazza (John) and Peter Klove (Karen), their grandchildren, Alexandra Stout (Matt), Christopher Klove (Meaghan), Olivia Rhodin-Stoneking (Taylor Stoneking), Alana Rhodin and Anders Rhodin and their adorable great-grandchildren Harper, Lyla, Tatum, Elliette, Blake and Clarke. He is also survived by many affectionate nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
His Funeral Service will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday, September 16 at 11am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held prior to the service beginning at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N Michigan Avenue, 17th Floor, Chicago, IL 60601-7633 in his memory.
