Elinor L. Chabot, a woman of remarkable grace and unwavering dedication, passed away peacefully in Naples, Florida, on March 13, 2025, at the age of 94.
Born on October 10, 1930, in Melrose, Massachusetts, Elinor lived a full and vibrant life, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and community spirit.
The daughter of Fred and Elizabeth Coggin, Elinor grew up in Wakefield and graduated from Wakefield public schools. She furthered her education at Chandler School for Women, where she pursued the medical field and training as a medical secretary.
Elinor's professional journey took an unexpected turn when she began her career as a teller at a Boston savings bank. This initial role blossomed into a distinguished career in banking, culminating in her position as Senior Vice President of Retail Banking at Suffolk Franklin Savings Bank. Her dedication to her profession was evident in her graduation with honors from Brown University's Graduate School of Savings Banking and her tenure as past president of Savings Bank Women of Massachusetts. Elinor retired early in 1985, after a successful and fulfilling career.
In 1984, Elinor found lasting love and companionship when she married Gary Chabot. Their union was a source of great joy and shared adventures.
Elinor embraced her retirement years with enthusiasm, indulging in her passions for travel, gardening, and crocheting. She was a dedicated volunteer, giving her time and talents generously to Cape Cod Hospital and, most notably, the Cape and Islands United Way. Her heart held a special place for the Baby Center in Hyannis, Massachusetts, a charity she cherished in her later years.
Elinor's life was enriched by the love of her family and friends. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Gary Chabot of Estero, Florida; her beloved cousin, Nancy Thorn of North Reading, Massachusetts; and a multitude of cherished cousins and friends, all of whom were touched by her warmth and kindness.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday June 7 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Her Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home immediately following the visitation at 11:00 a.m. Elinor's cremated remains will be laid to rest in Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield, Massachusetts, where her story began. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her, a testament to a life lived with purpose, compassion, and joy.
