Franklin R. Delano, 77, of Andover and formerly of Wakefield died on Tuesday, November 15 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a long period of failing health.
Born in Everett on July 16, 1934 he was the son of the late Earl and Marguerite (Gallagher) Delano.
Mr. Delano was raised and educated in Wakefield and had been the owner and operator of the Del Machine Shop of Melrose which he operated for 27 years. Mr. Delano also served in the Army National Guard of Massachusetts. Prior to living in Andover since 2007 he had also resided in Londonderry and Hudson, NH.
Mr. Delano is survived by his wife Susan (Gatchell) Delano. He was the father of Linda Reed of ME, Michael Delano of Woburn, Frank Delano of Beverly and Sheila Delano of NH. He was the brother of Earl Delano of CA, Mary Crossman of MD and the late Dorothy Eaton and Joan Molash. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
His funeral service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday at 7 p.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home prior to the service starting a 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
