George E. Moore, III

George E. Moore, III, age 83, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Wakefield on August 29, 1941, the son of the late George Moore Jr. and Linda (Carbone) Moore. He was the beloved husband of Virginia (Gagnon) Moore, with whom he shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. He was the loving father of Darren Moore of Bolton, Gregg Moore of Andover, and Carolyn Moore of Reading. He was the adoring grandfather of Grant Moore, son of Gregg and his wife, Erin. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Williams and her husband Charles (Charlie) of Reading and their four children (Lynn, Robyn, Gayle, and Charles, Jr.), nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Raised in Wakefield, George graduated Wakefield High School in 1960 where he lettered in Varsity golf, ice hockey, and baseball. Soon after, he graduated from Suffolk University in 1963 where he received his bachelor’s degree in business administration. From 1964 to 1972, he proudly served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force National Guard. Following his service, George began a career in finance, achieving many senior leadership positions at several financial institutions where he built relationships with a host of colleagues with shared interests. He was the consummate professional who valued and benefitted from fellow business leaders and mentors.

However, George was his own man and his own brand. He liked things done his way and had impeccable standards, so charting his own way was how he stayed true to his entrepreneurial spirit. He started Vernet, Moore & Associates, Inc. in 1989, a Wakefield based consulting firm which helped bank retail lenders to operate more efficiently by minimizing risk, reducing loss and increasing profitability. Brilliantly, he engaged his closest colleagues, friends, eldest son, and resourceful wife, to realize this dream. It wasn't easy, and required many long nights at the office, but George was nothing if not dedicated to his cause. The success of his business proved that the sacrifices were worth it. Through this endeavor, and many more, he leant his expertise to others. He served as the Treasurer for the New England Association of Retail Lenders (NEARL) for 26 years, created charitable organizations and scholarship funds that still resonate today.

Beyond his professional life, George was an avid golfer and lifelong member of Bear Hill Golf Club in Wakefield. He served as both a Treasurer and Club President, underscoring his dedication to the sport, and his vibrant spirit of service to organizations he valued. Over the years his love for the game inspired his wife to learn to play and in their later years the two enjoyed golf in Bermuda together.

As a family man, George lead by example, and set high standards. While seemingly demanding at times, his expectations inspired character, talent and tenacity. His dedication to his children was perhaps best expressed on athletic fields where he expected the best of them and often got it. This was a foundational characteristic that would follow them into school, college, graduate school, life and beyond.

We could never capture the spirit of this deeply talented, loving, and entrepreneurial man who has influenced and elevated generations of people. He loved networking, he loved golf, and above all, he loved his family. He invested in people, truly – with heart and integrity. While you might have to sit through a really long story with all the details ad nauseam, at the end of the day, you knew he had your back. He lived a rich life and will be deeply missed.
