Gertrude ( Legge ) Shea of Stoneham, MA and Naples, FL, passed away peacefully November 10, 2022 at 96 years of age. As she was throughout her life, she was surrounded and comforted by the love of her children, Philip Shea and Jackie Moore of Bridgewater, MA, Patricia Shea and Maria Zamudio of Santa Cruz, CA, Mary L. Shea of Milbridge, ME, Betty and Bruce Preisner of Hampton, NH, John J. Shea and Erik J. Glass of Chicago, IL and Maureen Shea and Stephen Roma of Wakefield, MA. She was predeceased by the love of her life, Philip L. Shea , her son, James and her grandson, Matthew. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Meghan, Brian and Erin and was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Finn and Rian.
Gert was a devoted mother, wife and friend who had a love of learning, golfing, reading, crossword puzzles, quality chocolate and The Boston Pops. She was a long-standing member of Bellevue Golf Club and was an active member in the Malden Hospital Ladies Aid Association among other things. Her joie du vivre was an inspiration to many and her positive outlook and willingness to help others remarkable. When regaling others with stories, she would often speak of her time at the GE Plant in Lynn making gyroscopes for US aircraft during WWII and later operating the switchboard at Bell Telephone.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday, Nov 15 from 4-7pm. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Wednesday, Nov 16 at 10am. Private burial will be at a later date.
