Gregory Stewart Rober, 64, of Lynnfield, MA, passed away suddenly on November 3.
Greg was born on July 4, 1957, to Edna and Donald Rober in Natick. He grew up in Belmont and attended Belmont Hill School before going on to study architecture at Washington University in St. Louis. He took time off partway through his sophomore year before transferring to University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he met his wife-to-be, Gail Beth Moskovitz, of Bennington, Vermont.
After graduating in 1980 with a degree in economics, he started working at his father's tile company, United Distributors Inc. He and Gail married on November 15, 1980, and went on to have two daughters and several cats and dogs, all of whom he loved to the fullest. Later on in life, he worked with his younger brother Cliff as a surveyor at Rober Survey in Arlington.
Greg's silliness and warmth were known to all around him. His interests varied widely, from motorcycles and cars to geology and flowers; he was just as keen to point out a souped up Honda CBR as he was a brilliantly colored rhododendron. He loved making the corniest of dad jokes, parading his beloved shelties around Glen Meadow, wearing solid wool socks, and playing J. Geils Band too loudly.
Greg was predeceased by his mother and father, Edna and Donald Rober. He is survived by his loving wife, Gail Rober; his devoted daughters Renée Rober of Brooklyn, NY and Monica McHugh and her husband Patrick of Washington D.C.; his younger brother Cliff Rober of Bedford and his wife Lisa; his older brother Don Rober Jr. of Concord and his wife Wendy; his in-laws Larry and Gerry Moss of Worcester, Alan and Jane Moss of Newton, and Richard Moss of Burlington, VT; his Shetland sheepdogs, Lila and Holly; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Private graveside services were held at Mount Auburn Cemetery on November 6. Arrangements in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
