Harry Leonard Shaffer, beloved husband of Maryann (Anzuoni) Shaffer for 64 years, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Sunday, September 15, 2024. He was surrounded by family and holding his wife’s hand.
Harry was the loving father of six children and nine grandchildren. Maryann Atherton and Charlie and Kelly and Steve DiCato, Michael Shaffer and Ben, Lorna Shaffer and Scott, Jeanne Shaffer and Ryan and Cameron Riley, Wayne and Susan Shaffer and Tyler and Dylan and Crystal Shaffer, Brian Shaffer and Madeleine and Lauren and Brett Shaffer.
Harry had been a resident of Lynnfield since 1967. He especially loved sitting on his deck in the sun, as it reminded him of his youth spent growing up near Revere Beach and working at the pool hall on the boardwalk.
Harry graduated from Northeastern University with both a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering. A lifelong member of Mensa, he was a free thinker and an educator, teaching at Merrimack College and ITT Technical College. He also inspired and guided his children and grandchildren throughout their lives. His successful engineering career included positions at several prominent companies, including GTE, Raytheon, and MITRE.
Harry was deeply loved and admired by many, especially by his wife, children, and grandchildren. We will always cherish him as our husband, father, papa, friend, and beloved Harry.
A Graveside Service was held on Tuesday, September 17, at Forest Hill Cemetery in Lynnfield, featuring military honors to recognize his service in the Army during the Korean War.
Arrangements were in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield. For guestbook, www.mcdonaldfs.com
