Hugh C. O'Brien

Hugh C. O’Brien, age 97, a longtime resident of Wakefield, formerly of Winchester, died Wednesday, October 23 at the Bear Hill Nursing Home in Wakefield. Beloved husband of A. Theresa (McNally) Doody O’Brien and the late Anne S. (Michalezyk) O’Brien and the loving father of the late David O’Brien. 

Hugh was born and raised in Winchester and moved to Wakefield in 1963 and attended Winchester Public Schools, Franklin Technical Institute, and Wentworth Institute of Boston. 

He was employed and retired from Middlesex Welding Supply Co. as Vice President of Sales, was chairman of the Boston Section of the American Welding Society and member of the Everett Chamber of Commerce. 

He was the brother of the late Robert G. O’Brien of Cumberland, RI. He was the stepfather to Cheryl Zito and her husband James, Marie Keddie, William Doody, and Francine Doody. He was the step grandfather of Lauren Cratty and her husband Jason, Michael Zito and his girlfriend Chelsea Frazier, Robert Keddie and his wife Kaila, and Kristina Weidmann and her husband Dan. He was the step great grandfather of Skylar Marie Cratty, Ava Rae Keddie, Jaxon Robert Keddie, Mackenzie Mae Weidmann and Leo Daniel Weidmann. 

Hugh enjoyed his passion of golf for many years, trips to Aruba and Loon Mountain, walking the lake, and was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Fireman 1st Class and was discharged August 10, 1946. He was also a member of St. Joseph Church. 

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Saturday, October 26 at 10am. Interment, Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lowell.
