It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Sgt. James R. Cotter, age 84 of Wakefield, formerly of Stoneham, on May 9 at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center.

He was born in Melrose on May 26, 1941 and was the son of the late James and Dorothy (Tidd) Cotter.

Jim graduated from Stoneham High School, Class of 1959. He went on to receive his master’s degree in finance from UMass Amherst. He served in the Vietnam war where he was stationed in Taiwan as a weapons crew chief in the Air Force from 1964 – 1968. He was a former member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery company in Boston, which is the oldest chartered military organization in the Western Hemisphere, established in 1638.

He was the loving husband of Susanne (Barisano) Cotter, of Wakefield formerly of Everett. He was the brother of Steve Cotter of Leominster, and the late David Cotter. Jim also leaves behind his beloved dog Katie.

His Graveside Service will be held at Lindenwood Cemetery, Montvale Ave., Stoneham on Tuesday May 19 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a greeter at the main gate to bring you to Jim’s final resting place.
