Jean Hall (formerly Stone), a lifelong member of the Wakefield community, passed away peacefully on September 1 at age 80, after a long illness.
Jean graduated from WHS in 1964 and later worked at American Mutual in Wakefield as well as several local shops for many years. After starting as a volunteer for them both, she ended up working in the offices of Representative Brian Cresta and then Senator Richard Tisei until she retired. She was involved with The Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield for over 30 years and even served as President in 1996. She often helped with the foundation's phone-a-thons and trivia nights by either playing or baking cookies and making popcorn to keep everyone fueled.
In 2020, Jean established a scholarship fund at TSF in memory of her parents Robert and Bertha. Over the years this scholarship has helped several Wakefield students to be able to continue their education after graduating high school.
Jean loved black cats, her red Jeep, organizing and attending class reunions, The Beach Boys, and Diet Pepsi. She also loved volunteering at Mission of Deeds and with PAWS helping animals in need, so much so that she adopted several cats herself. Her family Christmas parties and blueberry muffins were legendary, and her stuffed shells were always requested for family gatherings.
Jean was predeceased by her parents Robert and Bertha Hall of Wakefield, and many beloved cousins. She is survived by her daughter Karyn Courtney and son-in-law Ken, her great friends Jay Landers, Leslie Landry, and lifelong friend Lynne Lowry.
Her Funeral Service will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Monday September 21 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to PAWS or The Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield’s Hall-Ayscough Fund.
