Joanne E. Bonner

Joanne E. Bonner, age 87, passed away peacefully at the Bear Hill Nursing Center in Wakefield on December 1, 2025.

She was born in Boston on June 5, 1938 and was the beloved daughter of the late Jeremiah and June (Gooby) Harrington.

Joanne was raised in Charlestown and was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Somerville. She had been a 54 year resident of Wakefield, having raised her family in town and she was also the former owner of Towne News of Wakefield. Most recently she resided at Hart’s Hill where she enjoyed playing cards with her neighbors. She was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed watching and cheering them on. Joanne enjoyed summers on Cape Cod and winters in Florida, as well as her annual trip to Aruba. Above all things, Joanne most enjoyed being “Nanny” to her grandchildren relished playing UNO with them.

She was the beloved wife of the late William C. Bonner. She was the loving mother of Gayle Bonner of Wakefield, Janet Filoramo and her husband Joe of Wakefield, Nancy Bonner of Pennsylvania, Karen Colangelo and her husband Mark of Stoneham and William Bonner of Wakefield. She was the adoring grandmother of Michelle Crimaldi, Peter Filoramo, Michael Weaver and his wife Christina, Sam Colangelo, and the late Joelle Filoramo. She was the sister of Gerald Harrington of Florida and the late Edward and Richard Harrington. She was the great grandmother of Domenic and Anthony.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Lazarus Center for Healing Shrine/St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield on Thursday, December 11 at 11AM. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held prior to the Mass at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield from 9-10:30am. Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.

In lieu of flowers, Joanne’s wish was for you to take someone you love out to dinner.
