Joesph H. Mazzei

Joseph Mazzei, a staple of New York’s Upper East Side known for his cheerful demeanor and passion for the arts, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on Saturday evening, July 18, 2026. Joseph’s final resting place was in a room overlooking Park Avenue, in the city he held dear.

Raised in Malden, Massachusetts, Joseph Mazzei was the son of Joseph A. and Ida L. (Angelini) Mazzei. He was a proud finance scholar of Boston University. Joseph’s career took him to Ogilvy then J.P. Morgan Chase where he quickly rose in the world of finance and investment banking. Though he retired early for medical reasons, his unwavering passion to work never ended and acted as a consultant for major institutions including Black Rock and Hearst until his final days.

Faith played a pivotal role in shaping Joseph’s life. As a devoted Roman Catholic, he was a lifelong parishioner of St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Manhattan. His commitment to his religion guided him through every significant phase of his life with quiet strength and grace.

Joseph kept a rich and cultured circle. He adored the opera, musical theater, and was a docent at the Metropolitan Museum of Art where he specialized in religious art tours for delegates of the United Nations.

Family was, in the end, his truest devotion. He was predeceased by his parents and his dear cousin, Larry Smith.

He is survived by his cousins Joanne Degoederen, Susan Angelini, Sandra Angelini, William Angelini, Lisa Angelini Adams, Kieran Angelini,John Jordan, Haley Angelini, Bryan Degoederen, Gia Adams Wheeler, Theodora Berenson-Ginsberg, Riki Adams, William Angelini Jr., Brody Angelini, Fiona Angelini, Stevie Ginsberg, and Sage Wheeler.
