John C. Bohling

John C. Bohling, 88, of Salem, died on Thursday, August 13 at Advinia Care in Salem.

Born in Boston on May 23, 1938, he was the son of the late John J. and Elaine (Welsh) Bohling. He was a graduate of Stoneham High School and went on to earn an associate's degree in broadcasting from Northeast Broadcasting School in Boston.

Mr. Bohling served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1967 as a Chapel's Assistant, attaining the rank of Private, during the Vietnam War.

He was a retired Customer Service Representative for Delta Airlines, where he worked for 31 years. His favorite job, however, was serving as a crossing guard in Melrose.

Mr. Bohling was active for many years in fraternal and civic life. He was Chaplain of the Harry E. Nelson Post 63, American Legion, in Wakefield. He was also a Past Exalted Ruler and life member of the Wakefield Elks Lodge. He was a member of Wyoming Lodge, A.F. & A.M., a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of Aleppo Shrine, where he served as Past President of the Northshore Shrine Club. He was a devoted volunteer, helping with circus concessions, parking cars, the annual poppy drive, and the reading of "In Flanders Field" on Memorial Day.

Mr. Bohling was the husband of the late Carolyn M. (Kievenaar) Bohling. He was the brother of the late Herbert E. Bohling and Ellen M. Bohling. He is survived by his beloved niece, Julie Peach, her husband Bill, and their children Benjamin, Abigail, and Samuel, all of Marblehead.

He will be forever remembered for his witty humor and his deep love for his wife.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, on Tuesday, August 18 from 4–7pm. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, August 19 at Forest Glade Cemetery, Lowell St., Wakefield, at 11am.
