John Joseph Hopkins

John Joseph “Jack” Hopkins, age 68, a former Wakefield resident, passed away unexpectedly on November 20, 2025 at the Winchester Hospital. He was born in Lynn on July 5, 1957 and was the son of the late Bernard and Virginia (Capone) Hopkins.

Jack was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1975; later graduating from Northeastern University with a degree in toxicology. For many years, he had worked in the toxicology department at Massachusetts General Hospital. Jack enjoyed raising his family on Cape Cod and all of the opportunities it provided he and his children to enjoy the outdoors and sports. He was an avid sports fan, most enjoying basketball and had a tremendous interest in cars. He also enjoyed coin and stamp collecting. Jack will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, gentle soul, and the kindness he showed others.

He was the loving father of John J. “Joey” Hopkins Jr. and his wife Maria of Maryland and Melanie Hopkins of New York. He was the cherished brother of Patricia Dente and her husband Michael of Reading. He was the adoring grandfather of Skylar Grace, Alexander, and Avery. He is also survived by his dear cousin, Cheryl Butt and her husband Stephen of Middleton; as well as many loving extended family members.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Saturday, November 29 at 10am followed by interment at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield. Arrangements are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
