John T. Kelly

John T. Kelly, age 78, of Middleton, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at the Melrose Health Care Center. He was born in Medford on January 2, 1946, to the late James and Catherine (Nolan) Kelly.

Mr. Kelly spent his formative years in Medford and graduated from Malden Catholic High School. He furthered his education by earning an associate's degree from Bunker Hill Community College. Dedicated to his country, he served proudly in the US Army. Following his military service, Mr. Kelly settled in Stoneham where he resided for many years as a valued member of the community and a parishioner of St. Patrick Church. His commitment to service extended to his role in the Stoneham Police Department, where he faithfully served for 16 years until his retirement in 1996.

He is survived by his beloved daughter, Erin Kelly of Middleton, and his dear brother James Kelly and wife Bonnie of Bedford. He was predeceased by his siblings Joseph Kelly, Mary Verdi, and Julie Kelly. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Additionally, he is survived by his former wife Marguerite (Mahoney).

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham on Tuesday, June 25 at 10am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Monday, June 24 from 4-7pm. Private interment will take place at a later date at Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham MA or to the Stoneham Community Policing Unit, 47 Central St., Stoneham, MA 02180.
