John V. Merrill, Jr.

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, John Vincent Merrill Jr. of Stoneham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 at the Life Care Center of Stoneham.

Born in Boston on September 21, 1932, he was the son of the late John Vincent and Rose (Wolfart) Merrill. He grew up in South Boston before moving to Stoneham in 1942.

He is survived by his former wife, Regina (O’Connell) Merrill. He was the beloved father of Regina Maginnis (Michael) of Lowell, Paul Merrill (Lorraine) of Wilmington, John Merrill (Jessica) of Wakefield, and Mark Merrill (Louise) of Dracut.

He was the loving grandfather of Declan Maginnis (Tim), Talia Skowronek (Kevin), Alex Merrill, Finnbar Maginnis, Aedan Maginnis, and Haylee Merrill.

He was the loving brother of Rosemarie Merrill of Stoneham and the late Sister Paula Merrill, SCN. He was “Uncle Bud” to his nephew David V. Merrill (Mary) and his great niece and nephew, Emmanuelle and Oskar.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Germany during the 1950s before returning to Stoneham, where he worked for over 40 years at Atlantic Gelatin. He was an avid photographer, traveler, and active parishioner of St. Agnes Church.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald-Finnegan-Anderson Funeral Home, 322 Main Street, Stoneham, on Friday, June 12, from 9:00–10:30 AM. Followed by his Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at St. Agnes Church, 182 Woburn Street, Reading, on Friday, June 12, at 11:00 AM.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Kentucky.
