Joseph E. Simmons, 80, of Wakefield died on Saturday, December 27 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
Born in Melrose on May 7, 1928, he was the son of the late Joseph C. and Ruth (Workman) Simmons.
Mr. Simmons was the former owner of Duggan Simmons Co., Inc., a family run business in Boston. He retired from Barrow Industries of Atlanta, GA (formerly located in Canton, MA) after 30 years of service. He was a former member of the Medford Lodge of Elks and the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts. He had served two terms of duty in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife of 45 years, Claire (Malatesta) Simmons. He is also survived by three children, Steven J. Simmons and his wife Judy of Malden, Louise Lisa and her husband Tony of Wilmington and Mark J. Simmons of Wakefield. He is also survived by his grandchild, Adam Lisa of Wilmington. Mr. Simmons was predeceased by his brother, Robert J. Simmons.
A Funeral service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave. Wakefield on Wednesday at 11 AM. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 9 to 11 AM.
