Joseph W. White

In loving memory of Joseph W. White, August 16th, 1950 – June 4th, 2024, affectionately known by his family and friends as Joe or Joey.

Joe was born in Malden, MA, on August 16th, 1950, to Robert and Corinne White. He attended Melrose Public Schools, Cardinal Cushing Academy, and Boston State College.

Joe was fortunate to find his lifelong passion for hockey early on. He started playing for the Melrose Junior Reds and later excelled as the right wing for the Melrose High School Red Raiders. His family looks back fondly on one memorable season when Joe earned the title of leading scorer in the Middlesex League.

Joe lived and breathed hockey—both personally and professionally. Whether it was cheering on the Bruins or taking to the ice himself, his love for the sport was unwavering. His passion for hockey propelled him to launch his career in sports, starting by opening his own business, Sports Ltd., in Reading, MA. Joe went on to build a remarkable career as a hockey equipment sales representative for multiple organizations, including Graf, Christian Brothers, and most recently Inglasco and Sherwood Hockey, where he worked for over 20 years.

In his free time, Joe enjoyed golfing, riding his beloved Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and learning everything he could about cars. Of all his honorable traits, he will be remembered most for his steadfast devotion to his family and friends. Joe was a dedicated son, brother, uncle, and friend. He made it his mission to support and uplift others with his bubbly spirit and willingness to lend a helping hand. We will miss him dearly and are grateful for the years we shared with him.

Joe is survived by his siblings: Louise Avery of Woburn, MA; Rev. Robert White CSS of Springfield, MA; Michael White of Wakefield, MA; Denise Lepere of Hampton Falls, NH; and JoAnn Crotty of Wakefield, MA; and his cherished nieces and nephews.

A liturgy of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 11th, 2024, at St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill Street, Reading, MA at 10:30 AM. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 10th, 2024, from 4:00–7:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Avenue, Wakefield, MA.

Donations in his memory may be made to: Stigmatine Fathers, 123 William Street, Springfield, MA 01105; or the Cancer Research Institute (https://www.cancerresearch.org/).
