Judith Shea

Judy Shea, the last of the original “Shea Clan” of Wakefield, signed off with one last Irish goodbye. Without fuss or fanfare, she left this world the same way she lived – gracefully, quietly, and on her own terms.

Judy was the daughter of the late Richard and Anna (Driscoll) Shea, and the youngest of six children. She died peacefully on March 23, 2026, at the age of 84. Her passing marks the closing of a deeply cherished generation of the Shea family.

To generations who knew her simply as “Aunt Judy,” she was a steady and familiar presence, someone who showed up, listened, and offered quiet strength.

After graduating from St. Mary’s High School in Melrose in 1959, Judy earned her nursing diploma from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing and later a Bachelor of Science from Emmanuel College. She dedicated 50 years to caring for others as a registered nurse, spending the majority of her career at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Judy found joy in life’s simple rhythms – gardening, reading, sewing, spending time with family and friends, and caring for the pets that were always part of her home. Her faith was a steady and guiding presence in her life, reflected in both her daily actions and her deep involvement in the Wakefield community. She was a longtime member of the Gardening Club, the Women’s Guild at Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, and volunteered for countless organizations over the years.

Judy was the heart of the Shea family, someone who knew everyone and kept track of their lives across generations. She connected people, kept them in touch, and offered steady support when it truly mattered.

She created countless memories for her nieces and nephews, from sleepovers and piano lessons to fun adventures and small traditions that became part of growing up. If something was wrong, you were sent to Aunt Judy, who always seemed to know exactly what to do.

Her legacy is one of kindness, steadiness, and devotion to those around her. Grounded in her faith, she carried forward the spirit of the Shea family with grace and love.

She was predeceased by her parents and siblings: Richard H. Shea; Philip H. Shea and his wife Joyce; Francis Shea; Ann “Nancy” Collins and her husband Robert; and Charles L. Shea and his wife Barbara. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Sharon Shea and Deborah Shea and generations of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will remember her with deep affection.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 31 at 10:30 a.m. at Most Blessed Sacrament Parish in Wakefield, followed by interment at Forest Glade Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, in honor of her lifelong care for others.

Services are in the care of the McDonald-Finnegan-Anderson Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham 02180.
