June M. Donahue, age 96, of Wakefield passed away on June 14, 2025 at Winchester Hospital.
She was born in Cambridge on October 6, 1928 and was the daughter of the late Harold A. and Henrietta (Harris) Smith.
June was raised in Somerville and began her family there before moving to Wakefield in the mid 1950’s to raise her family. She worked as an Administrative Assistant for New England Telephone in the Benefits Department for 45 years until her retirement. She loved to play the piano during her free time while raising six children. June was a member of the former Greenwood Union Church where she was also an active member of The Spinning Wheel and church choir. She was also involved in the Polymnia Choral Society, a music group out of Melrose. She enjoyed summer visits to North Conway, NH and many fall foliage weekends in Stowe, VT, with family. June’s favorite holiday was without a doubt Christmas. She loved hosting her family on Christmas morning and always went above and beyond to make Christmas morning special for her family. Her children and grandchildren have fond memories of her Christmas grab baskets and special gifts to all in attendance.
June was the loving mother of Stephen Donahue and his wife Sue of Stow, OH; the late Daniel Donahue and his surviving wife Barbara of Wakefield, MA; James Donahue and his wife Dauna of Peabody, MA; Scott Donahue and his late wife Judith of Laconia, NH; Cindy Farley and her husband John of Cape Neddick, ME; and Thomas Donahue of Reading, MA.
June was the sister of the late Lawrence Smith and Dorothy Moore.
She was “Gramma June” to Jennifer, William, Christopher, Jill, Kelly, Jamie, Justin, Robert, Lisa, Laura, Andrew, Brian, Krista, Ryan, and Erin. She was great grandmother to 13 and very much looked forward to the arrival of her 14th great grandchild in October this year. June was sadly predeceased by three great grandchildren: Caladin, Blake, & Ellie. She is also survived by her nieces, Kathleen Smith, Ann Marie Smith Halliday, and Rita Smith.
A private, family graveside service was held at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody. Arrangements were completed by the McDonald Funeral Home in Wakefield.
Memorial donations in June Donahue’s name may be made to the charity of your choosing.
