Lucia DeRosa

Lucia DeRosa, 91 of the North End died Sunday September 21, at the Lahey Medical Center in Burlington.

Born in San Sossio, Baronia, Italy on May 6, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Michele and Carmela (Fabiano) Contardo.

Lucia was the beloved wife of the late Filippo DeRosa. She was the loving mother of Salvatore DeRosa and his wife Nancy of Stoneham, Consiglia DeRosa of Italy and Carmelina Huvila and her husband Chris of Woburn. She was the sister of Josephine DeGregorio, Grace DeRosa, Maria DelVecchio, Frank Contardo, and the late Domenico Contardo.

Lucia was raised in Italy. She immigrated to the United States in 1970, and settled in the North End. She was retired from the H.W. Powers Candy Company.

She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. We all loved to get together on Sundays for a delicious pasta lunch. Her large home cellar where she made her own jars of tomatoes and hot peppers became a heavenly meeting place for the entire family and friends to celebrate special occasions, holidays, and Italian festivals. She immensely enjoyed these get togethers.

Lucia never complained and she was mostly healthy until the last day where she was surrounded by her loving family. We will miss you and you always will be in our hearts. We love you.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham on Thursday September 25, at 10:00 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald-Finnegan-Anderson Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Wednesday September 24, from 4:00 – 8:00 pm.

Entombment will follow the Funeral Mass at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
