Margaret E. Cass

Margaret Eleanor Cass passed away on July 16, 2025, at Brightview Senior Living in Wakefield.

Born on April 27, 1929, in Cambridge, MA, she was the daughter of John and Margaret Murphy. She was raised in Somerville, MA, where she met and married John F. Cass. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage until Jack’s death in 2002. They moved to Greenwood in 1961 where they raised their four sons Jim, Rich, John and Bill.

“El” was very active in her neighborhood, always there to help out friends and neighbors. She loved her flower and vegetable gardens and could be seen caring for them all the time. She spent much of her time shuttling her sons and their teammates to hockey and baseball games. She loved having large groups of the neighborhood children constantly playing ball games in her backyard. El also enjoyed spending time with many of the Greenwood mothers whether it was for coffee and tea or exchanging books to read.

Eleanor and Jack also were part of truly remarkable families. Their siblings, in laws, nieces and nephews were very special to her, and she treasured the holidays, getaways and get togethers that seemed to always be happening.

Eleanor is survived by her four sons, Jim and his wife Carolyn of Dudley, Rich and his wife Sandy of Wakefield, John and his wife Nancy of Strafford, NH, Bill and his wife Karen of Hanover. Eleanor is also survived by grandchildren Patrick, Gregory, Eva and Misty and great grandson Calvin.

Eleanor was predeceased by her brothers, Clyde Murphy, Lloyd Murphy and John Murphy, and sisters, Zita Serval and Bernice Westoff and childhood friends Mona and Queeny.

Her Funeral will be private. Arrangements are in the care of McDonald Funeral Home in Wakefield.
