Marjorie A. Melanson

Marjorie A. Melanson, age 87, a former longtime Wakefield resident, passed away on July 28, 2026 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.

She was born in Somerville on October 1, 1938 and was the daughter of the late Edward H. and Mathilda V. (Weslin) Smith.

Marjorie was raised in Somerville before the family moved to Melrose, where she graduated from Melrose High School. She had attended Catherine Gibbs and later received her bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Boston College. She had been a longtime Wakefield resident, having resided in town from 1986 until 2022 when she moved to Newburyport to live with family. Marjorie was an avid Boston sports fan with a special appreciation for the Patriots and Celtics. She enjoyed spending free time at the Wakefield Senior Center where she had many friends and enjoyed the various activities offered. She also loved her trip to Ireland, claiming it as “her favorite place in the world.” She is missed deeply by her trusted furry four-legged companion, “Buddy.”

She was the beloved wife of the late John W. Melanson. She was the loving mother of John W. Melanson, Jr. and his wife Patrice of Newburyport, Jennifer King and her husband Clifford “Kip” of Wakefield, and Jacqueline Sarcia and her husband Edward. She was the adoring “Grammy” and “Nana” to Jack Melanson, Jorie, Annie, Kip, and Emily King, and Edward and Joe Sarcia. She was predeceased by her siblings Edward Smith, Marilyn Drew, and Grace Umbach.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday, August 3 from 10am-12pm, followed by a Graveside Service at Forest Glade Cemetery, Lowell St., Wakefield at 12:30pm.
