Mary-Ann Catherine Fitzgerald, East Longmeadow, MA
On Saturday April 24, 2021, Mary-Ann Fitzgerald, 59, educator, daughter, sister, aunt and wonderful friend lost her battle with (brain cancer) Glioblastoma.
Mary-Ann graduated from Springfield College in 1984 and earned a Master's Degree from American International College (AIC). She was a thirty-year veteran of the Springfield School System and a well-respected coach, physical education teacher and administrator. For the last few years, she was the accomplished Assistant Principal at Duggan Academy in Springfield.
Mary-Ann was known for her adventurous spirt, physical toughness and her love of travel and animals. She was accomplished in a variety of martial arts as well an instructor of kickboxing. She was also an advanced student of Kempo Karate and Iaijutsu. Many found her to be an inspiration due to her dedication and focus in her training and teaching.
She especially enjoyed spending time on the beach in Maine with many of her close and devoted friends: Betty Mann, Silvia Bertolaccini, Carol Fazio and Betty Dubois, who also lovingly cared for her during her illness.
Mary-Ann was born on February 6, 1962 in Wakefield, MA to Bernard and Eileen Fitzgerald. She was preceded in death by her father, Bernard, and her brother Bernie. She is survived by her mother Eileen and her brothers, Kevin, John, James and Barry and sister-in-law Margaret Fitzgerald. She is also survived by a niece, several nephews and several cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 11:00 am at St Joseph Church, 173 Albion Street, Wakefield, MA followed by a burial at Forest Glade Cemetery. All are invited to attend. Arrangements in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
