Mary Frances Marotta

With deep love, we share the passing of, Mary Frances Marotta, born in Arlington Massachusetts on November 14, 1937, Mary was the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret (O’Connor) Wall. A longtime Lynnfield resident, Mary passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on March 12, 2026.

Her life was defined by devotion to God and her family. A child of Irish parents, she held a lifelong love for Ireland—its people, traditions, and spirit—which remained close to her heart.

She grew up in Arlington with her beloved brother Stephen and sister Eileen, where she formed lifelong friendships and graduated from Arlington High School. She cherished the friends, family, and memories from those years. She married Salvatore Marotta in 1961 at Saint James Church, the family parish. She and her husband built a home and raised their family in Lynnfield. She was a constant presence in her children’s lives—serving as a Girl Scout leader for many years and attending countless hockey games, soccer games, and track meets. She took pride in her children and in the life she and her husband built together.

She shared a special love for the beach and for Chatham, where many happy family memories were made. She cherished time there with family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, frequent visits to the Candy Manor, and afternoons at “Broken Beach.” She treasured the friendships and community she found there.

As her family grew, she especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had unending love for them and took great pride in their accomplishments.

She was the loving mother of James Marotta and his wife Connie of Rome, ME, (formerly Sudbury); Margaret Marotta of Lynnfield; and Thomas Marotta of Lynnfield. She was the adored “Nana” to Matthew Smith and his wife Michelle, Cassandra Tewksbury and her husband Griffin, Nate Marotta, and Benjamin Marotta. She was the proud great-grandmother of Hailey Smith and Graham Tewksbury. She was the sister of Stephen Wall of Pompano Beach, FL, and the late Eileen Hood and her late husband Burt.

She is also survived by a loving circle of extended family, who brought her joy and laughter, including in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a growing number of great-great nieces and nephews, all of whom she cherished deeply.

She will be remembered for her steady presence, her dedication to her family, and the life she helped build. Her love and devotion leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Lynnfield on Tuesday, March 17 at 11:30am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday, March 16 from 4-7pm.
