Michael J. Polito, Jr., 81, of Burlington, formerly of Lynnfield died peacefully at his home on Friday, March 13.
Born in Somerville on December 21, 1944, He was the son of the late Michael J. and Esther (O’Keefe) Polito.
Michael was the husband of the late Marilyn (Haskell) Polito. He is survived by his three daughters; Michelle Polito, Dawn-Marie Morris and her husband Derek, and Cathy Polito all of Burlington, His two grandchildren, Michael and Erin Morris and his two sisters; Carol Minchello of Brockton and Mary Hinckley of Texas. Michael was predeceased by is sister Dorothy Polito and his brother John L. Sullivan. He also left many nieces and nephews.
Michael was a graduate of Somerville High School, Class of 1961. He was a retired Director of Worldwide Security for Polaroid in Waltham and Cambridge. Michael was also a former co-owner of Custom Quality Pools in Billerica. Michael enjoyed watching horse racing, golf, and the Patriots. He also loved to reminisce about his time spent on Cape Cod.
He loved all his daughters deeply, but his youngest daughter Cathy, along with his grandchildren Michael and Erin, were his pride and joy.
He wore his heart on his sleeve and never hid who he was. He could be controlling, outspoken, and quick to speak his mind, but beneath it all he had a heart of gold. At his core, he was one of the most generous people you could meet. If someone needed help, he would do whatever he was able, to help someone else. Not everyone saw this side of him, but those who truly knew him, understood the depth of his kindness, loyalty, and the love he carried in his heart.
In the final year of his life, he was supported by immediate family an incredible group of loyal friends who stood by him through long hospital stays and rehabilitation facilities. Their friendship meant the world to him. When he returned home in February, he fought every day to regain his strength, until his body could fight no more.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday, March 19 from 4-7 p.m. His Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, March 20, at 11:30 a.m.
