Nancy Hellard Patti , an outspoken advocate for the employees of the City of Cape Coral, died January 4, 2016.
Born in Boston on June 15, 1949 she was the daughter of the late Richard William Hellard , Sr. and the late Mary Rita McGeough Hellard . She was the sister of the late CPL Richard Hellard , Jr. USMC who was killed in August, 1968 in Phu Bi, Viet Nam and the late Mary Hellard who died in infancy.
She was raised in Charlestown until she was six, at which time her family moved to Beverly. Married in 1968, she moved to Wenham, where she lived for over 40 years. After becoming ill with Lyme Disease, Nancy moved to Cape Coral, FL in 2006.
Nancy worked for 13 years as an LPN in medical/surgical units until she decided to return to school for her degree in Office Technology. She worked as a Professional Secretary for RINET Company, the Visiting Nurse Association of Boston and then as a Legal Secretary for LeBoeuf Lamb and then Foley Hoag, all located in Boston. Nancy was an active volunteer in Youth Soccer when she was younger and then in her retirement she volunteered in the Cape Coral Police Unit, Canal Watch, and also as a Cuddler at the Cape Coral Hospital NICU. Sadly, she had to leave these positions due to declining health. She did retain her position in Cape Coral Community Emergency Response Team. She worked as an officer in Cape Coral Civic Association and often volunteered as a member at the Cape Coral Irish American Club Festival.
Nancy is survived by her sister Linda Hellard Collins of Wakefield; her son Christopher A. Patti of Stevensville, MD; her daughter Shannon Patti D'Evegnee of Cape Coral, FL; grandchildren: Emerson and Sophia Patti of MD and Brianna D'Evegnee of Cape Coral, FL; nieces: Mary, Jennifer and Lisa, as well as several cousins.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Saturday, January 16 at 10am. Interment to follow at Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. A visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield prior to the mass beginning at 8:30am.
