Neil E. MacKay Jr., 78, of Woburn, formerly of Watertown died Wednesday July 23, at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading.
Born in Cambridge December 16, 1946, he was the son of the late Neil E. and Margaret (Carney) MacKay.
Neil was the beloved husband of Jeannine (Middleton) MacKay. He was the loving father of Colleen Hertler and her husband Frank of Billerica, and Melanie MacKay of Wakefield. He is also survived by his dear sister Sharon Carey of Rock Hill, SC.
Brother-in-law of Deborah and William Horrocks, Nancy Middleton, and Kimberly and Richard Wallace. Loving uncle to Stacy Pineau, Shannon and Joseph Falzone, Brian Carey, William and Samantha Horrocks, Kelly Wallace & Rachel Duckett, Steven and Elizabeth Wallace, Jamie and John Kudlich, and Max Ruggiero. Great-uncle to Nathaniel, Luke, Grey, Ariana, Harrison, and Jak.
Neil was a graduate of Watertown High School and Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology. He worked as a draftsman for over 20 years at United Electric in Watertown. He then pursued a career in carpentry, building and remodeling homes in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. His life-long love of classic cars motivated him to purchase and meticulously maintain his dream car during his retirement, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle.
His funeral service will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday July 30, at 11 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday July 29, from 4-7 p.m.
Interment, Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
