Paola “Paula” Scannelli, age 70, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Naples, Italy, on September 22, 1953, and was the daughter of the late John and Anna “Nina” (Percope) Berriola.
Paola was born and raised in Naples, Italy, before making her home in the United States. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, sister, and friend. She loved opening her home to all, extending her table with a warm smile, plenty of laughter, and lots of love.
She was a resilient woman who faced life's challenges with remarkable strength. She remained a pillar dedicated to her family and friends, always ensuring their comfort and happiness. She was everyone's confidant, a shoulder to cry on, a person to listen, a giver of strength, compassion, and love.
Paola had a passion for cooking and hosting gatherings, bringing people together with her infectious smile and joyous spirit. She was "the hostess with the mostest." In her quieter moments, she enjoyed reading a good book, listening to music, or having a cocktail. She cherished her family deeply and was a proud mother.
She was strength, sass, and all class. Her legacy of love, warmth, and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be remembered for her unwavering spirit and the joy she brought into the lives of those around her.
"As we are so blessed we build a longer table, not a higher fence, although sometimes the fence is needed." - Paola Scannelli
Paola is survived by her beloved husband, Anthony R. Scannelli. She was the loving mother of Anthony R. Scannelli II and his wife Denise of Hampton Beach, NH, and Andrew R. Scannelli of Medford, MA. She was the sister of Oreste “Rusty” Berriola and his late wife Marina of Medford, Maddalena “Lena” Berriola of Stoneham, and Patricia “Trish” Quinn and her husband Chris of Stoneham, MA.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham on Wednesday, June 26 at 10 AM. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham, prior to the mass, beginning at 9 AM. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
