Paul Francis Egan, age 74, died peacefully Friday, May 2 in Boston at the Massachusetts General Hospital after years of battling cancer.
He was born in Northampton, MA on May 14, 1950, and was the son of the late John S. and Margaret (McMann) Egan.
Mr. Egan was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1969, where he met his wife of over 50 years. He went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Merrimack College. He worked for more than 40 years at Kayem Foods until his retirement. In high school, he developed a passion for running which he enjoyed for many years to follow including finishing various half marathons. For many years Mr. Egan helped on his parent’s blueberry farm in NH. During his kid’s school years he was very active with Wakefield Music Boosters, including serving as the organization’s president. He also enjoyed coaching his children’s soccer and basketball teams. As his family grew older, he enjoyed traveling the country to visit them where they lived. In more recent years he was able to travel farther to Hawaii and to historical cities in Europe. Later in life he was blessed with grandchildren and enjoyed supporting them in their various activities and passions. He attended many ballets, soccer games and equestrian events.
He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Palmerino). He was the loving father of Erin Egan and her husband Eric Lyons of Cumberland, RI, Colleen Egan of Wakefield, and the late John M. Egan. He was the adoring grandfather of Abigail, Elyse, and Olivia Lyons. He was the brother of Alice DiCenzo and her husband Frank of Woburn, Martha Fitton of NH, Mark Egan and his wife Candice of NH, John Egan and his wife Linda of Reading, and the late David Egan of CA.
Visitation for relatives and friends at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday, May 5 from 4-7pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Tuesday, May 6 at 10am. Interment, St. Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham.
