Pauline H. Salter, 92, of Bedford, died on Sunday, August 24th at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading.

Born in Melrose on September 20, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Marshall P. and Dorothy A. (Chamberlain) Harris.

Mrs Salter lived in Reading for most of her childhood, moving to Gilford, New Hampshire in her teens, graduating from Laconia, New Hampshire High School in 1950. She attended the University of New Hampshire, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in 1954. She lived for many years in Bedford, Massachusetts including the last eight years at Carleton-Willard Village where she made some wonderful friends.

After graduating from college she lived in Boston, working as a secretary at M.I.T. where she met her late husband. While raising her children she worked for many years for the First Parish Church and Housing Authority in Concord, Massachusetts. She volunteered with Minuteman Senior Services and the Bedford Council on Aging, serving as a Board member for many years. She was also an active member of the League of Women Voters and First Parish Unitarian Universalist church in Bedford for many years.

She loved to garden and was wonderful cook. She also enjoyed traveling, both in the US and Europe, especially European River trips. She enjoyed time spent on the coast, especially the outer Cape and Plum Island. She was an avid reader and was a frequent user and supporter of the Bedford Library.

Mrs. Salter was the wife of the late Richard T. Salter, II. She is survived by her son, Richard T. Salter, III of Maynard, her daughter, Paula H. Judge and her husband Thomas of Laconia, New Hampshire; and her grandchildren, Kevin, Kerry and her husband Hugh, and Matthew and his wife Leah; as well as her brother, Marshall P. Harris of Newburyport.

Her Funeral Services were private. Arrangements were in the care of the McDonald-Finnegan-Anderson Funeral Home, Stoneham.
