Peter Ledig

Peter Ledig, 90, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 1st, leaving behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and dedication. He was born on August 5, 1934, in Leipzig, Germany, the only child of Oscar and Johanna Ledig.

Peter immigrated to the United States in 1957, bringing with him the strong values and work ethic that would define his life. In 1958, he married the love of his life, Bette Lou Sanderson, with whom he shared 66 devoted years of marriage.

Peter is survived by his wife, Bette Lou Ledig; his son Peter J. Ledig and wife Elizabeth of Houston, TX, and their two sons, William and Benjamin; his daughter Susan J. Moran and husband Francis of Marlborough, MA, and their son Alexander.

A skilled carpenter by trade, Peter proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1968 and served honorably in the U.S. Army. His professional career spanned over 36 years with Jackson Construction, where he was a dedicated union carpenter who rose to the role of foreman. His work lives on in many renowned institutions, including the New England Aquarium, the Museum of Fine Arts, and Dartmouth College.

Peter was passionate about his German heritage and often returned to his homeland to visit family and share its beauty and history with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid collector of German beer steins and cherished traveling with Bette by his side.

Peter’s strength, humility, and unwavering love for his family and community will be deeply missed.

Family and friends are welcome to gather at a memorial service to celebrate Peter’s life at the First Baptist Church of Wakefield, 8 Lafayette Street on Saturday, June 14th at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Peter’s memory to a charity of your choice.
