Phillip J. "Phil" Giampa

Phillip J. "Phil" Giampa, a 34-year resident of Wakefield and formerly of Malden and Somerville, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in West Roxbury. He was 68 years of age.

Phil was born in Cambridge on April 21, 1955, a son of the late Robert Giampa and Cecile (Audet) Giampa. He grew up in Somerville where he was educated throughout the Somerville Public School system and graduated from Somerville High School. Phil enlisted into the United States Marine Corps on March 22, 1973, and served his country with honor and pride during the Vietnam Conflict. Phil was a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps Special Operations, Second Force Recon. He was honorably discharged on March 22, 1977, with the rank of Sergeant. Phil loved being a Marine and was always so proud of his time in the military. Phil worked for the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier and retired following 38 years of faithful employment to his country. He was also a longtime employee of both the Stoneham Ice Arena and Kasabuski ice skating rink in Saugus. He was a member of the Reading Gun Club. Phil was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and snow shoeing.

Family was paramount in Phil's life, and he enjoyed all the special occasions and personal moments he shared with his best friend and wife, his 2 daughters and son, his 4 grandchildren and all of his extended family who he loved so much.

Phil is the best friend and loving husband to Madelyn C. "Babe" (Simpson) Giampa. He is the devoted and adored father to Michelle Reboulet and her husband Scott, Lauren Campbell and her husband Craig and Sean Giampa. He is the loving and adored Papa to Danielle, Colin, Jack and Rory. He is the beloved son of the late Robert Giampa and Cecile (Audet) Giampa. He is the beloved son-in-law of the late Catherine T. (Doherty) Donovan. He is the beloved brother of Robert Giampa and his wife Deborah, Marco Giampa and his wife Gail, Patricia Forristall and her husband Richard, Stephen Giampa and his wife Joann and Maria Franklin and her husband Rees. He is the beloved brother-in-law of Kathleen and Roy Dario, Russell and Cindi Donovan, Kevin and Laurie Donovan, Sean and Bonnie Donovan and Rita and Kenneth French. He is also survived by his many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Phil's Funeral on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 9:45 A.M. from The McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield at 11 A.M. His burial is private. His visiting hours will be on Monday, July 10, 2023 from 4 to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
