Ralph P. Walker, Jr. age 82, of Melrose, passed away on Friday, August 1 at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill.
Born in East Boston on September 20, 1942 he was the son of the late Ralph P. and Margaret (Colicchio) Walker.
He was raised in East Boston and eventually moved to Medford or the “country” as his mother referred to it. He was a graduate of Medford High School and later Suffolk University. Mr. Walker had been an accomplished baseball player first as a standout in high school after which he was scouted for the Houston Colt .45’s (now the Astros). After his time with Houston, he returned to Massachusetts to attend college and play baseball for the Hosmer Chiefs in Medford. Along with his family, Mr. Walker enjoyed skiing and golfing at Sunday River in Maine. However, his greatest joy came from his family and, especially, good food. Ralph’s wit, flair for storytelling and big personality will be missed by all who knew him.
He was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Fahey) Walker with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. He was the loving father of Colleen Walker and her husband Daniel Grace of Tewksbury, Stephen Walker of Windham, NH, and David Walker of Beverly. He was the brother of John “Jack” Walker and his late wife Ellen of Malden, Margaret Gennetti and her husband Henry of Stoneham, and the late Honorable Neil Walker and his surviving wife Rita of Wakefield. He was the adoring grandfather of Zachary and Ryan Walker. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Services were private. Arrangements were in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to High Point Hospice House, 360 North Ave, Haverhill, MA 01830.
