Robert “Bob” Murphy, 71, a much-loved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on April 14, 2026, after a long battle where he bravely confronted and fought cancer.
Bob was born on June 20, 1954, in Stoneham, Massachusetts, and was a proud graduate of Stoneham High School, Class of 1972. He went on to further his education at community college before beginning a long and dedicated career with the Internal Revenue Service, where he worked faithfully for 30 years until his retirement.
Bob had a deep fascination with automobiles and enjoyed following sports. He was an avid collector of baseball cards, sports literature, and Boston Red Sox memorabilia. Known as the go-to person for sports trivia, Bob was also regarded by many as a savant when it came to automobiles.
He was a well-liked man, known for being one of the friendliest people you could meet. Bob had a positive, happy, and welcoming attitude toward others, and his contagious laugh will be fondly remembered.
He was predeceased by his loving parents, Edward “Eddie” and Catherine Murphy; his sister, Kathy Redding; and his brother-in-law, Paul “PJ” Redding.
He leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories for his surviving family: his sister, Joanne Roy of New Hampshire; his nephew, Shawn Smith of Tampa, Florida; and his niece, Lisa Smith of Pompano Beach, Florida.
Church services will be planned at a later date.
