Robert L. D’Entremont, age 92, a long-time Stoneham resident, passed away on Thursday, December 4 surrounded by his family.
Born in Reading, MA, Robert was the son of the late Roger and Leone (Doucette) D’Entremont. As a young man, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country during the Korean War. After returning home, he completed his high school education at Reading High School.
Known affectionately as “Brother,” a nickname lovingly given to him by his older brother and best friend, Roger D’Entremont, Robert often spoke of their childhood in a corner of Reading known as Mudville, where the two grew up surrounded by a close-knit circle of lifelong friends.
A man of deep faith, Robert was a devoted parishioner of Saint Patrick Parish. He volunteered generously with the CCD program, supported funeral services, and offered help to anyone in need within the community. His spiritual life also brought him into a special, enduring friendship with the monks of Weston Priory, whose companionship meant a great deal to him throughout his life.
In his free time, Robert found great joy on the water. An avid sailor, he eventually purchased his own sailboat, the Gabrielle, and delighted in teaching his family the skills and pleasures of sailing. He also had a remarkable compassion for animals, spending countless hours caring for injured wildlife, which he would often nurse back to health in his own basement.
Robert dedicated more than 30 years of his career to Logan Airport as field Maintenance supervisor, retiring in 1996. In retirement, he and his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Betty,” traveled extensively, road-tripping throughout the country, cruising the Caribbean, sailing, and exploring the world, including Europe and Hawaii. Among his most cherished memories were summers in New Hampshire, visits to Weston Priory, and trips to Nova Scotia.
“Uncle Brother” will be deeply missed by his many nieces and nephews, his parish family, the Stoneham community, and his Nova Scotian relatives. He will be remembered as a kind, faith-filled man who loved to laugh, share a good joke, and bring joy to everyone around him.
Beloved husband of Elizabeth “Betty” (Leonard) D’Entremont. Devoted father of Robert D’Entremont Jr. of Chelmsford; David D’Entremont and his wife Maureen of Stoneham; Jennifer Perry of Stoneham; and the late Noreen D’Entremont and the late Mark D’Entremont and his wife Susan of New Hampshire. Cherished grandfather of Gabrielle D’Entremont and her husband Aldo Caira III; Abigale and Jake Perry; and Ryan and Nicholas D’Entremont. Brother of Roger D’Entremont and his wife Noreen; Mary Bellrose and her late husband Sheldon; the late Lois Tisdale and her husband, the late Larry Tisdale; and the late Paul D’Entremont and his wife Mary Ellen.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, December 9, from 4–7 p.m. at the McDonald-Finnegan-Anderson Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham. Interment will follow at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN.
