Robert Hancock

Robert F . Hancock , 77, of Peabody and formerly of Wakefield died Tuesday September 16 at the Cedar Glen Nursing Home in Danvers.

Born in Melrose on June 28, 1931 he was the son of the late Herbert & Grace (Thresher) Hancock .

Mr. Hancock was a long time Wakefield resident and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1949 and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He served for 26 years as the Business Manager of the Chelsea Evening Record newspaper and retired later after many years as the Superintendent of the Lakeside Cemetery of Wakefield. Mr. Hancock was a member of the Golden Rule Lodge of Masons AF & AM and of the Allepo Temple. He was also a member of the Chelsea Kiwanis Club, Corporator at Chelsea Hospital, Board member of the former Broadway National Bank, Massachusetts Press Association, Advisory Board member of the Salvation Army, a 100 Club member and Honorary Chief of the Chelsea Police Department.

He is survived by his wife Janice K. (Davis). His son John A. Hancock and his wife Helen of Cranston, RI. He was the grandfather of Daniel, Alexandra & Garrett Hancock and step grandfather to Kerri & Brandi Sullivan. He was predeceased by his daughter Mary V. Hancock .

His funeral service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home 19 Yale Ave. Wakefield Saturday September 20 at 11:00. Visitation will be held prior to the service Saturday morning beginning at 9 AM. Private interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery.
