Robert Perry Frates, age 95, of Peabody, formerly of Fairhaven and Stoneham, MA joined his loved ones in heavenly places on May 3, 2026.
Bob was the husband of the late Diane (Velten) Frates who he shared a Spirit full marriage of 38 years, in Stoneham. Born and raised in Fairhaven, MA he was the son of the late Mary and Arthur Frates, brother of the late Arthur Jr., Evelyn, and Barbara Ferreira. Bob is survived by his two children, Deborah A. Walker and Michael R. Frates, both of Clinton, MA. Grandfather of Madison E. Frates, Nathan M. Frates of Lynnfield, MA and Ava M. Walker of Oakham, MA. Great grandfather of Peyton Berry of Danvers, MA.
Bob was a graduate of Fairhaven High School, Class of 1948, served in the U.S. Navy 1948-1952 on the USS Compton DD705 for three years.
He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, formerly “New Bedford Institute of Technology” and attended many Graduate courses at CCNY, Northeastern University, and Adelphi University, in NY. He enjoyed a rewarding career as a Sr. Mechanical engineer with Sperry Rand Corp, RCA, Megapulse, and retired from Digital Equipment Corp in 1992 as Project Manager at the Computer Special System Group in New Hampshire.
Bob enjoyed many hobbies, including boating and fishing in Buzzard’s Bay, woodworking including craft items for his wife Diane and home improvements, also vacationing in USA, Canada, Holland, and Egypt with his wife Diane. He also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, along with his friends and extended family.
Bob moved to Brooksby Village Senior Retirement Campus in 2019 at the age of 89 with his dear friend Karen Black. The many activities such as swimming, woodworking, poker, and social gatherings kept both Bob and Karen happily occupied daily.
His Funeral Service will be held in the McDonald-Finnegan-Anderson Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Friday, May 15 at 1:00pm. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held prior to the service from 11am-1pm. Interment, Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
