Ruth A. Sawin

Ruth A. Sawin of North Reading, formerly of Wakefield, died on May 10 at age 90 with her family by her side. Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Richard Sawin, Sr., with whom she shared 60 years of marriage.

Ruth was the devoted and loving mother of Deborah A. Sawin of Somerville, Richard A. Sawin, Jr. and his partner Gregory K. Wilson of Boston, and Linda A. Jones and her husband Bradley H. Jones, Jr. of North Reading. She was the cherished and adoring grandmother of Alexis R. Jones and Nicholas B. Jones. Ruth was the sister of the late Mary Taddeo and is survived by her sister Virginia Falzarano and several nieces and nephews.

Born in Wakefield, Ruth was the daughter of the late Virgilio and Gidonna (Nutile) Cambareri. She was a graduate of Our Lady of Nazareth Academy. Her extensive volunteer work with local charities and organizations such as the Girl Scouts and St. Joseph’s Church included serving as the President of the Board of Directors for Our Lady of Nazareth Academy for many years. Ruth later worked alongside her husband in his family business, Sawin Motors in Wakefield, until his retirement.

In retirement, Ruth loved to spend time at her New Hampshire vacation home, hosting many family activities. She loved to travel with her family, especially to St. Bart’s. Ruth was an accomplished cook and baker and an avid gardener. Above all, Ruth cherished her time with her family and grandchildren.

Ruth’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa Parish, 63 Winter Street, North Reading on Thursday, May 21 at 11:00 a.m. Her family will be receiving guests at the church before the Mass, beginning at 10:15 a.m. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.

Ruth was a devoted parishioner of St. Theresa Parish. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth’s memory to St. Theresa Parish Garden Fund, 63 Winter Street, North Reading, MA 01864.
