Susan Leone

Susan Morey Leone, a Wakefield resident since 1984, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 31, 2022. She was 69 years old.

Born and raised in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Muriel (Reebenacker) Woodruff.

Susan is loved and survived by her husband of 49 years, John Michael Leone, Jr., of Wakefield; by her daughter, Janice Susan Leone, of Lowell; by her son John Dewey (JD) Leone and her grandson, Logan Leone, of Belfast, Maine. She is also survived by her dear and loving youngest sister, Martha (Woodruff) and her husband, Michael Keegan, of Methuen; by her brother, Robert Woodruff, of Derry, NH; and by her sister, Christine (Woodruff) Cosbar, of Beverly. Susan is also survived and loved by many aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, and in-laws.

Sue was a graduate of Reading Memorial High School, class of 1970 and was a member of the first class to graduate from Middlesex Community College in 1972. She also attended Northeastern University where she studied accounting, a skill that served her well as she provided exceptional service to corporations and individual clients.

Sue was a noted artist and craftsperson who was proficient in a variety of media, taught art classes, operated a craft store, created commissioned works, and participated in arts and craft fairs throughout eastern Massachusetts. She usually had multiple projects in the works simultaneously and continued to exercise her creativity until a week before her passing despite the many health issues she was struggling with. Sue was an active, loved, and respected member of the Reading Society of Craftsmen.

Susan was a yard sale ninja who loved to treasure hunt for personal use and for business purposes. She was an avid reader, an on-the-go person, always ready to lend a hand to family and friends, always willing to put their needs and wants before hers. Sue enjoyed the relationships she built through her involvement in the Wakefield Center Neighborhood Association, craft, and other organizations. Her involvement in her children's school, sports, and other extracurricular activities reinforced her maternal bond with them and helped them nurture their own lifelong positive relationships with so many of their friends.

Aside from her professional, creative, and community endeavors, Sue found time to exercise her considerable horticultural skills by creating beautiful gardens and yard displays at home in Wakefield, at the family's cabin in Maine, at her daughter's home, and for anyone who sought her counsel.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Avenue, Wakefield, on Thursday, April 7th from 4-7 pm. Funeral Services will be private.
