Terence J . McCarthy , 83 of Weymouth, formerly of Wakefield, passed away Wednesday March 23, 2022 at Beverly Hospital.
Born in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon, Ireland, he was the son of the late Michael F. McCarthy and Mary (Gallagher). Terry moved to the United States in 1957. He served in the United States Air Force as a Military Police Officer stationed in Germany and Morocco. For 31 years he worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a locksmith. He was a member of MIT's Quarter Century Club. As a Wakefield resident, he volunteered his time with many Wakefield Youth Sports. His main passion was Irish music and Irish Set Dancing, and was a proud member of the Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann of Boston. He appeared in the 1994 movie "Blown Away" as an Irish dancer in the wedding scene.
Terry was the beloved father of Michael F. McCarthy and his wife Kathleen of Dracut, and Patricia M. Darrah and her husband Matthew of Jacksonville Beach, FL and Rockport, MA. He was the proud Grampy of three: Dierdra R. Darrah of Dublin, Ireland, Reagan R. Darrah of Jacksonville Beach, FL, and Sean F. McCarthy of Dracut. Spending time with them was his favorite thing to do. Two brothers, Frank and Bernie, predeceased him. He also leaves behind many cousins in Ireland.
Lots of love and thanks to his Irish community friends, his neighbors Bill and Joan Kelly, Brian and Dawn Wilkins, and his dear friend Robin Shambaugh and her daughters Braidy and Erin.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
