Walter J. "Walt" Barczak, 82, of Wakefield died Sunday, May 24 at the Meadowview Rehabilitation Center in North Reading.
Born in Buffalo, New York, he was the son of the late John and Suzanna (Mikulska) Barczak.
Mr. Barczak was a graduate of Kenmore High School in New York and had attended Wentworth Institute of Technology. He was a World War II Navy Veteran serving on the USS Sea Cat 339 in the South Pacific and earned the American Theater, Asiatic Pacific, Philippine Liberation, Submarine Combat Insignia and the World War II Victory combat service ribbons. Mr. Barczak was a self employed mason. He was a life long member of the Crystal Community Club in Wakefield and St. Florence Parish in Wakefield.
Mr. Barczak is survived by his wife Eleanor V. (Colantuono) Barczak, his 6 children; Linda M. Sjostrom and her husband Doug of Tewksbury, Michael Barczak and his wife Valerie of Bradford, John Barczak of Maine, Cheryl A. Barczak and her husband Jay Butterbrodt of North Andover. David Barczak and his wife Mary of Wilmington and Lisa J. Sletterink and her husband Glenn of Wakefield, his two sisters; Gene Cuzydlo and Mary Barczak both of New York and his two brothers; Robert Barczak and James Barczak both of NY. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Barczak was predeceased by his three sisters; Helen Siminski, Ann Bianchi and Jenny Butler.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Friday at 8:30 am followed by a funeral mass in St. Florence Church 47 Butler Ave, Wakefield at 9:30 am. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 3-8pm.
Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield. Memorial contributions in Walters name can be made to the St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield, MA 01880.
